My Reflections on Netbooks

Hi, My name is Taki I am a year 5 student and Glenbrae School and I am in Room 9. My teacher is Mr. D. Nath.

This year was an exciting year for me because I started using a chromebook.  I was fascinated by the thought of doing so many cool things on my chromebook but it took me some time to really start using it effectively. There were so many things to learn and I tried my best to learn as much as I could from my teacher, whanau and friends.

These are my reflections on what I did.

The things that I have learnt from my teacher was how to use the netbook, I learnt a few things about cyber safety, accessing the class site and how to blog my work. The things that I learnt by myself was how to improve my typing skills and the keyboard shortcuts.

I have learnt how to screenshot my work and how to change my password. The things I have learnt from people outside of school is how to hack into other peoples users.

I  am able to think about the topics that I am going to research and write questions using using google docs and I am able to post onto my own blog although I found it difficult at first. I am also able to read more online books, stories and articles while looking for information , deciding which sites are safe for me to access and use information from, sharing my learning on my blog and also the class blog.

Afe's Family Hair Cutting Ceremony

Wohooo! Today we started off really well! Have you ever been to a Very Very Special Hair Cutting Ceremony. Well today I have experienced this my third time.

Firstly, as we arrived we waited outside for some members that we knew. After a while my friend Karl showed up and I was glad to see him arrive through the gates of the school.

Next we strolled over to the hall and found some seats. I was thinking that we were the odd ones out, because we didn't know anyone except for Afe and Joseph. As we waited Afe came over and spoke to my father and Tsana. ( Karl's Mother)

After a while we were shown to the front seats and seated there for the whole time. We were introduced to the main person of this ceremony, but I never paid attention to the names because I was bored.

Sooner when they invited some special people to the front front seats, the main persons mum spoke some very interesting words and inspiring as well. When she finished talking we were invited to eat. This meal was sooo delicious.

After the fabulous meal we had some very nice ice-cream and Jelly, which also followed along with chocolate cake. When I was done with my ice-cream I was sooo full and wanted to go and play outside with Karl and my brother Saia.

When we were allowed to go outside my brother and I decided to go and play soccer with a ball that we found. Karl was sooo busy climbing the wall and being a famous conqueror.During our soccer game some boys asked if I wanted to play tag with them and I said not at the moment. Once I was bored of loosing so much to my brother Saia, I gave up. Saia then noticed that I didn't want to play so he asked if I wanted to go and play with the boys who wanted to play Tag. As soon as we set foot they asked straight away if we wanted to play and my brother said yes.

We started off with one of the boys being in. We played so much that even I was getting puffed in the icy cold winds. Unfortunately for my brother he never got tagged because he was so pro at climbing around the park, It was if he was spider man. Sooner my dad called out to us and we went home.

Hair Cutting Ceremony

Wow!! Thrilling, just waiting for the Hair Cutting ceremony to start, and also listening to some groovy music as well.

This story is about a family docking the sheep.

First Aunt  Mollie pulled the cover off  Mikey and the narrator. Then Aunt Mollie, Uncle Tama, Mikey and the narrator got their docking gear ready for docking the sheep.

Then the family left in their old van for the paddocks that was near the sea. When the family got to the field where the sheep were, they started to dock the sheep but the sheep made a lot of noise so they had to scream at each other.

Next, when the all the sheep came down, they heard a noise coming from the the top of the hill and it was the chocolate truck. The chocolate truck rolled over and hit a tree. Then the family went and help the chocolate truck driver collect all the boxes of chocolate that had fallen of the truck. While  they were helping the truck driver,  Aunt Mollie was getting the picnic ready.

The characters in the story is Mollie,Mikey,Tama and the chocolate truck driver.

Lees Than one Second

WALT review  stories we read

This article is about Ashley and Shiree who are having are slot race.
The car weighs less than 150 grams each. The race lasts less than a second! Ashley and Shiree are the only children competing in the annual slot car Drag Racing Nationals in Nelson.

They are competing in races against each other as well as against adult racers. All the races are run as a best of three”. You have three chances to get the fastest time. At the start of a race, the racers line up in twos beside the drag strip.

Above them is a TV screen. The racers have to watch the screen for a green light. As soon as the green light flashes on, each racer presses down on their handheld control button to start the car.

They need  to have a very fast reaction time. If they start their car before the green light comes on, a red light flashes. This means that they are disqualified for that race.

Within a split second, the cars can reach speed up to 193 Kilometers per hour. Times are recorded on the computer. They are accurate to a thousandth of a second.

The track is 12.8 metres long. The world record for the fastest slot car drag race over this distance is .448. In that race, the car reached a speed of 222 kilometers per hour

The characters in the Ashley,Shiree and the adults

I like this story because it has heaps of cars.

Story Review

Centre Stage By Kenn Benn

The story is about Donna who was going to perform in front of the school.
The characters in the story are Donna, Alice, Tama and Mr Warner.
The story  takes place at school.
The main problem was the stage because Tama and Alice did not turn the stage properly.

The characters solved the problem because Tama used a felt tip pen to mark the stage’s starting point. The thing I like about the story is that the stage turns.

Soccer with Ben

BEN

Thank you for coming and teaching us soccer skills and I hope that you come back next year because you taught us how to dribble, pass a ball to the other people, how to stop, kick and throw.Thank you for letting us play Octopus, Flag Tag and Truck and trailer and I liked playing in the little tournament on the last week of school. Thank You!

Mighty Muscles

The article is about building Muscles. In order to have strong muscles, we have to eat these food: fish, meat, nut and cheese. The  biggest Muscle in our body is the one we sit on and it is called Gluteus Maximus. The smallest Muscles is deep in our ear and it called Stapedius. When we run,  first we have to stretch our hands and legs so when we finish our run, our legs won’t hurt. Cramp happens when a muscle stays tightly contracted. The muscles feel hard and sore. Gentle stretching can make it feel better.

Winter Rap

WINTER  RAP
In winter I had a pig for dinner
Dad wanted chicken but I was the winner.

The winter clouds are in the sky
Coming down to the ground to lie.

Great white clouds are in the sky
The sun is shining up so high.

On the ground I saw a pig pound
It was big and fat and round.

In winter I went in a train
So I could go and catch my plane.

Next to the plane I saw a snake
I got scared and fell over a rake.

In winter I went to my rugby game
I hurt my leg so I was lame.

In winter it is so very cold
People look like they turned old.

In winter when it is cold and wet
I like to go home to a hot chocolate.
