Endangered whales

Why are whales endangered?

Whales are endangered because of oil spills from ships. These oil spills are polluting the sea so whales are dying.Oil spills can affect the food chain. When whales eat oil-infected animals in the sea it can affect them because oil can injure the eyes and lungs.

Whales are also endangered because whalers are using their fishing nets to catch them.Using fishing nets catches a large number of whales.Whalers also use drift nets which catch whatever swims into them, including whales. These whales get tangled up in the nets and drown.

Ships often go very fast and can accidently ram into whales.Whales hit by these ships can be seriously injured, losing parts of their tails to propeller blade or dyes.
